Weatherman forecasts bright spells for Bargoed

Wednesday 19 November 2008

BBC Wales Weatherman Derek Brockley took time out from his visit to the Rotary District Conference in Plymouth to add his support for Bargoed Chamber of Trade’s initiative to provide their members customers’ with reusable bags.

Derek was one of the Speakers at the conference raising awareness of the impact of Diabetes and the work of Diabetes Cymru. There are 150,000 Welsh people known to be affected by Diabetes and approximately 10,000 people who have the condition but have not been diagnosed with it.

Derek whose father suffered from Diabetes also advised that it was thought that the incidence of Diabetes in Wales was likely to double in the next few years.

The linen bags available from members of the Bargoed Chamber of Trade were provided as a response to the demand for eco-friendly bags and to support Bargoed’s bid to become a fair-trade town.

The Chamber would like pictures of the bag in unusual circumstances/places so please either send or email them to the Secretary.

Bargoed Chamber of Trade and its members would like to thank everyone for their support at what is a difficult time for the town and wish everyone a Happy New Year.
