Thursday 16 December 2010 Bargoed Chamber of Trade has a new website! Featuring details of its members and their products and services, the new website now has extra items that show the town’s heritage, its present, and the plans for an exciting future.

Its designer, Chamber member ensures that the site is packed with up-to-date news of the town and loads of useful information. The old site had almost 9000 pages viewed by 2500 visitors in a short time, and Bargoed Chamber of Trade hopes that visitors will find the new format and extra content even more enjoyable.

Bargoed Chamber of Trade and its members thank all who have supported the town and businesses over the year despite the extensive regeneration works taking place in the town centre and sends everyone best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Bargoed has been infested by bugs.

The bugs are available from Bargoed Chamber of Trade members whose businesses display the "I’ve Caught the Bargoed Bug – Have You" stickers in their windows.

When members of Bargoed Chamber of Trade visited Dublin recently the eco-friendly bag accompanied them.

In addition to visiting a number of places during the short stay the bag caught up with the BBC Radio Wales scarf and Radio Wales personalities Jamie Owen, Louise Elliott, Roy Noble and Phil Steele. Pictured with Roy Noble and Phil Steele is Bargoed Chamber of Trade Treasurer Peter Collins and Ivan Hill.

Peter has moved swiftly to dispel concerns about any expenses incurred during the trip stating that in addition to holding the kitty, valid receipts being held and all expenditure was authorised by him!!!!

The Bargoed Chamber of Trade’s fashion accessory has made its first visit to Italy.

The bag was not out of place in the Eternal City one of the designer capitals of the world as it accompanied John and Marj Edwards of Hengoed on their recent trip to Rome.

The bag is pictured with Marj at the Forum and further pictures of its Roman holiday.

Bargoed Chamber would like pictures of the bag in unusual circumstances/places so please either send or email them to the Secretary.

The Bargoed Chamber of Trade’s eco-friendly bag has visited Jordan and is now en route to Japan.

While at Petra the bag met up with Sports Science Graduate Keishi Suzuki, no relation to the motoring dynasty (unfortunately says Mr Suzuki). Mr Suzuki was on an extended tour between graduating from Tokyo University and starting work in March.

In addition to Petra the bag visited the Mount Nebo and Aqaba and more pictures of the bag’s global travels can be found in the Image Gallery.

With only a few bags remaining look out shortly for our next initiative.

At the recent Annual General Meeting of the Bargoed Chamber of Trade Sean Murray was elected President.

Sean is a Director in the family business that owns Cleopatra's Night Club, the Plasnewydd and the Darran public houses, and has been an active member of the Chamber for many years.

The Chamber of Trade was founded pre 1902 and Sean follows a family tradition where his late father Keith held the Presidency in 1994 & 2006.

Sean is well known in the Bargoed community through his membership of the Rotary Club of Bargoed where as Chairman of the Foundation Committee Sean like his father raises large amounts of money for Rotary International’s charity work overseas, his involvement in the activities of the Greater Bargoed Partnership and other activities in the local community including his membership of the Bargoed Licensed Victuallers.Association.

Brian Jarrett of Brian Jarrett Photographic was appointed Vice President.

Dave Collins of Fooks and Co, Peter Collins of B Thomas Pet Shop and Ivan Hill of Community Connect (Wales) Ltd remain as Secretary, Treasurer and Press Officer respectively.

Sean takes the Presidency when hopefully there’ll be a positive announcement regarding the retail development and the continuing works on the regeneration of the town centre will not be as disruptive as previously.
